how do I fix these icons? is this a bug?

Not sure if this will help but the icons (.ico files) are located under the WinNC folder under Program Files (x86).  I have not seen this issue but perhaps the .ico files are missing in your case.  I would think a reinstall of the program will fix the issue.

thanks, the problem was that the file association for .ico was missing/incorrect so then it stopped rendering in WinNC
